In silico Investigation of Sex-Specific Osteoarthritis in Human Articular Chondrocytes

چکیده

Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA), a progressive degenerative disease of cartilage in joints, is the most common cause chronic disability older adults. While OA mostly considered an age-related pathology, women have 1.5-fold higher risk developing relative to men and experience more severe symptoms. Yet, they remain underrepresented musculoskeletal research clinical trials. Responsible for formation, articular chondrocytes physiological changes OA, but functional implications such alterations largely unexplored due difficulties acquiring data experimentally. Through reparameterization, we expand mathematical chondrocyte model investigate sex-specific pathogenesis. We performed sensitivity analysis address impact ion channel activity healthy populations. Simulations show that female chondrocytes, resting membrane potential depolarized than male suggesting emergent differences chondrocytes. In both sexes, sensitive

Evaluation of CD98 Expression in Normal and Osteoarthritic Human Articular Chondrocytes

Background: Recent studies have provided evidence that integrins play roles in recognition of mechanical stimuli and its translation into a cellular response. Integrin signaling may be regulated by a number of mechanisms including accessory proteins such as CD98 (4F2 antigen). Objectives: To determine CD98 expression by human articular chondrocytes and its involvement in human articular mechano...

Human articular chondrocytes express 15-lipoxygenase-1 and -2: potential role in osteoarthritis

INTRODUCTION 15-Lipoxygenases and their metabolites have been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, but little is known regarding their expression and function in chondrocytes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the expression of 15-lipoxygenase-1 and -2 in human articular chondrocytes, and to investigate the effects of their metabolites 13(S)-hydroxy octa...
